Following recent developments in the company management structure, Swains MHL Division, European arm has taken the bold decision to enter the European Groupage and Part Load market. This follows months of development which brings together existing haulier partnerships across the EU, Turkey and Scandinavia. The service will be a direct, scheduled linehaul offering from Swains Strood, Kent cross-dock facility which is conveniently located just off J2 of the M2 motorway, and only 1 hour from Dover and Folkestone. The service encompasses single pallet, part-load and bulk groupage; complimenting the existing Full Load network it operates.
“We have long seen a demand in the market but have not had the tangible opportunity to take advantage of this” stated Matthew Sweet, Group Commercial Director at Swain. “We have brought in specific expertise to complement the existing resources to deliver on the strategy….Despite current uncertainties driven by Brexit, we strongly believe there is a robust market to launch the service into…we have good, knowledgeable people, strong customer service, deep and meaningful carrier partnerships and a significant customer base to take this into”. “There is a huge amount of choice out there for shippers and manufacturers, but from our experience, within this, there is a significant amount of poor quality and visibility. Our core values and partnership arrangements will be one of the key qualifiers” said Sweet.
Initial services include a Western European schedule servicing the main industrial hubs of the EU and an Eastern Europe & Med region offering. Both will cover Export and Import services.
Commenting on the launch: MD Matthew Deer stated “Since taking over the role of Group MD, the team were very keen to bring this strategy to life. A number of the senior management team have had strong experience in the European Market and it is clear we want to bring this to the fore. Swain has a long history of operating within Europe and this further strengthens the portfolio of service offerings to what is a significant and loyal customer base”.
